Garden of Marqueyssac (Jardin de Marqueyssac)

Jardin de Marqueyssac and Manor
The Garden of Marqueyssac sits above the lovely town of La Roque-Gageac.  Right across from this cliff-top garden is the imposing Castelnaud castle.  Anyone visiting the Dordogne region should consider a visit here among the many other spectacular sights.  It is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, taking a break from the castles.  Instead, you will find yourself wandering through lovely manicured gardens.

You can wander through various trails, getting lost.  A cliffside trail gives wonderful views of the Dordogne River and ends at grand view point.  You will certainly enjoy it.  My personal opinion is that this is a notch below some of the other spectacular places in the Valley.

Lower Hanawi Waterfall, the best on the Maui The best waterfall in Maui is certainly a debatable issue for experts and locals. For me there is no debate at all.  After visiting multiple waterfalls throughout the nine days of adventure, this waterfall still takes my breath away. Not only was it extremely tall but the water flow pouring over the cliff was enormous and had such power as to fill the entire canyon with mist. Notom Sunrise, Capitol Reef

Notom Sunrise in autumn Capitol Reef National Park as the water pocket folder which runs from north to south the length of the park.  The most frequent visited locations are on the west side of the water pocket fold.  They do not get the early morning light from sunrise.  On the east side, the sunrise directly lights up the landscape. I was hoping to find a good autumn location for sunrise and drove out here in the early dawn.  The town of Notom is more of a location on a dirt road than any type of established community.  There is a very old cemetery on a hill.  The gravestones indicate some of the residents died in the 1800s.  This hill overlooks Pleasant Creek and the surrounding cottonwood trees.  It was on this hill that I set up my tripod and compose the photograph.  I was delighted with the lovely autumn leaves.

Tallest Grass

Tallest Grass  In the field, looking at the bland clouds and hazy grey skies, I had to decide how to make an interesting photograph of my dear little cabin.  I wasn't satisfied with my standard shots taken from 2 to 6 feet above the ground.  The ground cover wasn't interesting enough to shoot down.  The skies weren't good enough to shoot up.   So I changed perspective radically by inverting my tripod and getting very, very low to the ground . . . so low that my subject (the cabin) was mostly obscured.  It became a complimentary subject while the grass and yellow flowers became my new star.  Even so, this is a less saturated picture than most landscapes.  It feels grey/neutral in many ways and accurately represents the colors that day.
